European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a 200-million-euro investment package for Greenland to strengthen ties between the European Union and the Arctic territory. The funding will support education, fisheries, satellite and cable connections, hydropower, critical minerals, housing, tourism and small businesses. Von der Leyen said Greenland can count on the EU and described it as a strategic partner. The move comes as concerns grow over Arctic security and Greenland’s sovereignty, following repeated comments by US President Donald Trump about wanting greater US control over the island.
