Chinese premier chairs State Council executive meeting

Chinese Premier Li Qiang chaired a State Council meeting in Beijing that focused on emergency response following the deadly mudslide at Gyirong Port in Xizang. The meeting called for continued efforts to find missing people, prevent secondary disasters and improve early-warning systems and international cooperation. It also discussed improving urban underground pipeline networks, strengthening the business environment to attract investment, and regulating local government investment practices. The meeting further reviewed proposed changes to China’s tax collection and audit laws, with the aim of improving tax services, protecting taxpayers and strengthening financial governance.
