A major cross-Strait youth exchange event opened Tuesday in Shanghai, bringing together roughly 1,000 attendees from mainland China and Taiwan to foster closer regional integration and cooperation. Co-organized by mainland entities and Taiwan’s Kuomintang (KMT) youth committee, the forum featured key addresses emphasizing economic alignment, common cultural heritage, and shared opposition to “Taiwan independence” on the basis of the 1992 Consensus. Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng pledged expanded policy support for Taiwan entrepreneurs and students, while young participants are set to take part in cultural forums, technology exchanges, and study tours across Shanghai and neighboring Zhejiang Province.
