Yemeni government forces announced a sharp escalation in fighting on Sunday, launching 181 military operations using drones, artillery, and rocket launchers against Houthi-held areas across seven provinces. Government spokesperson Majid al-Nuzaili stated that the strikes targeted Houthi positions, weapons depots, and military vehicles in retaliation for recent attacks on government forces, civilian infrastructure, and ports, resulting in numerous casualties and equipment destruction. Concurrently, the Houthi movement claimed responsibility for retaliatory ballistic missile and drone strikes targeting Saudi military reinforcements in Mocha and Marib, while continuing a broader campaign of recent attacks on government-held territory, Saudi energy facilities, and Red Sea shipping. The renewed fighting underscores the ongoing conflict that has gripped Yemen since late 2014, when the Houthis seized northern territories and the capital Sanaa, triggering a Saudi-led coalition intervention the following year.
