Russia strikes Ukraine after major Ukrainian drone attack

Russia launched a wave of overnight strikes across Ukraine that killed at least five people and injured numerous others, coming just a day after Kyiv carried out one of its largest aerial drone attacks on Russia. The Russian strikes targeted multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kryvyi Rih—where a steel plant allegedly producing weapon components was hit, killing two people and wounding 14 workers—as well as Zaporizhzhia, where an elderly couple died when their house was destroyed, and Kyiv and Sumy. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported multiple injuries in the capital following four rounds of air raids, while Moscow stated that its operations targeted defense and drone-part manufacturing facilities. The intensified bombardments followed a massive Ukrainian drone offensive on Sunday that killed at least six people, including an 83-year-old man in Podolsk, and caused significant damage to infrastructure sites such as a Wildberries warehouse near Moscow and a bus in the Belgorod region. This latest exchange marks a major escalation in long-range strikes by both sides, with infrastructure and industrial targets far from the front lines continuing to bear the brunt of the ongoing conflict.
