China launches Level-IV geological disaster response in Beijing

China’s Ministry of Natural Resources on Tuesday activated a Level-IV emergency response for geological disaster prevention in Beijing as the remnants of Typhoon Dolphin bring heavy rain to the capital.

Most parts of Beijing could receive more than 100 millimeters of rain within six hours and over 150 millimeters within 24 hours through Thursday. Southwestern and northeastern areas face a higher risk of landslides and other geological disasters.

Several districts, including Fangshan, Daxing and Tongzhou, have issued red alerts. Authorities have deployed hundreds of flood-control teams, strengthened preparations at subway stations and hospitals, and begun evacuating residents from high-risk areas in Fangshan.
