Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia join forces: Rethinking Mideast security amid a multipolar shift

Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed a joint defense agreement that could reshape security cooperation in West Asia.

The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, signed on August 7, establishes a collective-defense principle under which an attack on one country would be considered an attack on all three.

The deal comes as regional powers seek greater strategic independence amid tensions involving the United States and Iran. While the three countries share an interest in stronger military cooperation, they have different regional priorities and do not share a common enemy.

Analysts say the agreement may initially be more political than military, but it signals growing efforts to build a more multipolar regional security system beyond reliance on Washington.
