UN chief expresses solidarity with quake-hit Colombia

A magnitude-7.5 earthquake in western Colombia has killed at least 188 people and injured more than 1,600, according to the Colombian Association of Capital Cities. The earthquake caused widespread destruction across the country’s coffee-growing region, with homes, apartment buildings, schools and health centers damaged or destroyed. Thousands of people have been left homeless, while rescue teams continue searching through rubble for survivors. Several airports and major highways remain closed, and some communities are still without water, gas and electricity. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed solidarity with Colombia and said the UN is supporting the government-led response.
