China’s State Council launches investigation into Chongqing mountain collapse

China’s State Council has established a special team to investigate the mountain collapse that struck Chongqing on July 17. The group, led by the Ministry of Emergency Management, will examine the cause of the disaster and review the response efforts.

As of July 30, the collapse had claimed 51 lives, left 10 people missing, and forced more than 1,100 residents to evacuate. Authorities are continuing recovery operations while working to strengthen disaster monitoring and improve prevention measures across the country.
