Chinese artificial intelligence models occupied the top five positions in weekly token usage rankings released by OpenRouter, marking the 14th consecutive week that China has led the global market. Between July 28 and August 3, Chinese models processed more than 28 trillion tokens, far surpassing the 4.38 trillion tokens handled by U.S. models.
DeepSeek’s V4-Flash model ranked first, followed by models from Xiaomi, Tencent, DeepSeek, and Z.AI. DeepSeek also stood out for its lower operating costs compared with competing models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Moonshot.
Industry analysts said improvements in efficiency, lower costs, and wider international adoption have strengthened the global competitiveness of Chinese AI models. Meanwhile, Alibaba introduced its latest model, Qwen3.8-Max, as competition in the sector continues to intensify.
