More than 9,000 people have moved into evacuation centers after a major earthquake struck southwestern Japan, according to the government. Officials reported at least 13 deaths, with seven people seriously injured and 29 others suffering minor injuries. The quake affected several prefectures, including Kumamoto and Fukuoka, where more than 500 evacuation centers have been opened to provide shelter for residents.
