Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Myanmar-China Twin City Media Forum Held in Yangon

YANGON, July 2026 – The opening ceremony of the 2026 Myanmar-China Twin City Media Forum, held under the theme “Affection of Mountains, Loyalty of Breeze,” along with the Myanmar-China Cultural Exchange Week, took place on the morning of July 28 at the Pacific Ballroom of the Pan Pacific Hotel in Yangon.

The event was attended by U Ye Tint, Deputy Minister for Information; Dr. Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar; Mr. Yang Yuanzhang, Director-General of the Yunnan Daily Press Group and Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Yunnan Provincial Committee; as well as representatives of private media organizations and official delegates.

The ceremony opened with cultural performances, including the song “Beloved Union,” performed by artists from Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV), along with song and dance performances by Chinese artists.

In his opening address, Deputy Minister U Ye Tint highlighted that Myanmar and neighboring China share land borders, rivers, and mountains. He noted that the two nations have long lived together harmoniously as “Pauk-Phaw” relatives.

He stated that the theme, “Affection of Mountains, Loyalty of Breeze,” symbolizes the enduring friendship between the peoples of the two countries, characterized by affection as steadfast as mountains and loyalty as gentle as a breeze.

He further noted that the event was jointly organized by Myanmar’s Ministry of Information and the Yunnan International Communication Center (YICC) for South and Southeast Asia. The initiative aims to pass down the “Pauk-Phaw” friendship to future generations. He also mentioned that Myanmar’s information sector actively collaborates with various Chinese media organizations, including NRTA, CMG, CCTV, CRI, Guangxi TV, YMG, and Xinhua.

Following his address, Dr. Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, and Mr. Yang Yuanzhang, Director-General of the Yunnan Daily Press Group, delivered their respective remarks.

A video clip showcasing the achievements of the 2025 Twin City Media Forum was subsequently screened. During the event, MRTV and YICC digitally signed a one-year media cooperation agreement. Furthermore, four media experts from Myanmar and four from China participated in a discussion entitled “China-Myanmar Economic Corridor Construction Think-Tank Sharing Session.”

In the afternoon, a closed-door session of the China-Myanmar Twin City Media Forum was held under the theme, “How China-Myanmar Media Present Content Creation Under Current Circumstances and How to Address Fake News and Misinformation in the AI Era.”

The forum was attended by media representatives from Myanmar and other countries, members of private media organizations, departmental officials, and distinguished guests.
