Chinese and international scientists have created the world’s first detailed spectral map of a black hole at the scale of its event horizon, marking a major breakthrough in black hole research. By combining observations of the supermassive black hole M87 from the Event Horizon Telescope and the Global Millimeter VLBI Array, the team discovered that radiation changes significantly from the black hole’s center to its outer regions. The findings provide new insights into the behavior of plasma around black holes and could help future researchers better understand how black holes, their accretion flows and powerful jets evolve over time.
