Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says the country is taking an “all-hands-on-deck” approach as Canada faces one of its worst wildfire seasons on record.
More than 5,300 firefighters and 300 aircraft have been deployed, while drones, thermal imaging and other advanced technologies are being used to detect and fight the fires. So far this year, 3,839 wildfires have burned more than 2.9 million hectares, with 971 active fires, including 239 that remain out of control.
The hardest-hit area is Northern Ontario, where widespread evacuations have been ordered and smoke has spread into parts of the United States, triggering air quality warnings.
