China’s foreign trade remained strong in the first half of 2026, with total goods trade reaching 25.47 trillion yuan (about $3.75 trillion), up 16.9% year on year, according to the General Administration of Customs.
Exports continued to be driven by high-tech industries, with high-tech product exports rising 39% to 3.26 trillion yuan, while mechanical and electrical products made up more than 60% of total exports. Imports also hit a record high, surpassing 10 trillion yuan for the first time in the first half of a year.
Private companies remained the main force behind growth, accounting for 57% of China’s total foreign trade. Trade with Belt and Road partner countries, Africa and neighboring markets also expanded, highlighting China’s efforts to diversify trade partnerships and strengthen global economic links.
