Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Solomon Islands Foreign Minister Rick Houenipwela in Beijing on Tuesday, with both sides pledging to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation.
Wang said relations between the two countries have achieved significant progress since diplomatic ties were established in 2019, expressing China’s willingness to deepen cooperation across various sectors. He also said Pacific island nations should be free to choose their own development partners without outside interference.
Houenipwela reaffirmed the Solomon Islands’ commitment to the one-China principle and thanked China for its long-term support. He said the country is ready to deepen cooperation with China and strengthen coordination in international organizations, including the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.
