A fire at a pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district late Sunday killed 27 people and injured 63 others, with 22 victims in critical condition, Thai officials said.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said most of the victims died from smoke inhalation after the venue quickly filled with smoke. Survivors said many people became trapped near the bathrooms because the pub had no emergency fire exits.
The blaze, which reportedly started near the front of the stage, was extinguished shortly after firefighters arrived. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
