Stephen Chow’s new sports comedy Kung Fu Soccer got off to a strong start at the Chinese box office, earning more than 100 million yuan (about $14 million) on its opening day, according to Maoyan.
The film combines traditional Chinese kung fu with women’s football, turning matches into action-packed martial arts sequences while telling the story of a team of underdog players who overcome challenges through teamwork and determination.
The movie was filmed at the Dayawan Culture and Sports Activities Center in Guangdong Province, which is now opening its football pitch to visitors hoping to experience the filming location and boost local tourism.
