Renewed explosions were reported in Iran after the United States launched strikes against Iranian military targets following attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US military said the strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems, coastal surveillance sites, missiles and drone facilities, saying the action was in response to attacks on three civilian vessels.
Iranian media reported explosions on Qeshm and Kharg islands, including near Kharg Island, one of the country’s main oil export hubs. Iran has condemned the US action and warned it will take measures to protect its national security.
The strikes have raised new concerns over a fragile ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran reached last month. The US also revoked a license that allowed Iran to sell oil internationally, causing oil prices to rise.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a major global shipping route, and tensions have increased after several tankers were reportedly attacked in the area. Both sides have accused each other of escalating the situation, raising fears that the conflict could expand further.
