Iran and the United States have concluded talks in Qatar on implementing a peace memorandum of understanding (MoU), according to Iranian officials and Qatari mediators. The discussions, held over two days in Doha, focused on key issues including maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the use of part of Iran’s $6 billion in frozen assets to purchase essential goods.
Iran said the talks also included complaints over alleged US violations of the MoU and concerns about increased US military activity in the region. A monitoring mechanism and communication channel are expected to be established to track compliance and report violations.
While US officials described broader progress in related diplomatic efforts, they said nuclear issues were not part of this round of discussions and would be addressed later. A follow-up meeting is expected after Iran completes upcoming national ceremonies in early July.
