US Supreme Court backs Trump’s deportation policy for Haitian, Syrian immigrants

The US Supreme Court has allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 350,000 Haitian and 6,100 Syrian immigrants, removing protections that shield them from deportation and allow them to live and work in the United States.

In a 6–3 ruling, the court overturned lower court decisions that had blocked the policy. TPS was originally granted to Haitians after the 2010 earthquake and to Syrians following the outbreak of civil war in 2012.

The ruling marks another legal victory for Trump’s tougher immigration agenda. The Supreme Court also sided with the administration in a separate immigration case involving asylum policy.
