ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn said a stronger ASEAN-China partnership is essential amid growing global uncertainty, speaking at the Jakarta Forum 2026 on Monday.
He noted that ASEAN and China remain major trading partners, with bilateral trade surpassing $1 trillion in 2025, and called for deeper cooperation in peace and stability, digital innovation, energy, security and people-to-people exchanges.
Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Wang Qing said both sides should strengthen openness and cooperation, expand collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, clean energy and agriculture, and work together to promote regional prosperity and stability.
