Heatwave prompts alerts across several European countries

Several European countries have issued heat warnings as an intense heatwave continues across the continent.

In Spain, temperatures have reached 40–42°C, with the national weather agency warning of health risks, especially for older adults and people with heart conditions. Authorities also warned of an increased risk of wildfires.

France has placed Paris and 34 other departments under its highest red heat alert, with temperatures expected to hit 41°C in some areas. The country’s railway operator has advised vulnerable passengers to avoid traveling during the hottest periods.

In Italy, temperatures climbed to 39°C in some inland areas. The Health Ministry expanded its highest heat alert to eight cities, including Turin and Florence, as the heatwave intensified.

Meteorologists expect unusually hot weather to continue across much of southern and western Europe in the coming days.
