The first round of high-level talks under the Iran-US peace memorandum has ended in Switzerland, with mediators Pakistan and Qatar describing the discussions as “positive and constructive.”
The two sides agreed to continue technical talks this week and set up a High-Level Committee to oversee negotiations, with the goal of reaching a final agreement within 60 days. They also established a mechanism to monitor the ceasefire in Lebanon.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the talks had made major progress, including sanctions relief, the lifting of the maritime blockade, the release of some frozen assets and plans for Iran’s reconstruction.
However, tensions remain. Iran accused the US of failing to fully uphold ceasefire commitments, while Israel said it would maintain troops in southern Lebanon. An Iranian source warned that the Strait of Hormuz would not reopen if Israeli military operations in Lebanon continue.
