China’s AI token consumption has surged dramatically, with ByteDance’s Doubao rising from about 100 billion tokens per day in 2024 to over 120 trillion by March 2026, reflecting rapid AI adoption across industries.
Nationwide usage reached around 140 trillion tokens per day, highlighting explosive growth in AI agents and large language model applications.
Globally, token demand is also rising fast, driven by training and running AI systems, with companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Alibaba, and DeepSeek charging per million tokens at widely varying rates.
China is also investing heavily in AI infrastructure, including a national computing network and expanded 5G and future 6G systems, aimed at supporting massive AI workloads and digital economic growth.
