Russia attacks Kyiv as Zelenskyy speaks to Trump, Europe about peace deal

Russia launched missile strikes on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, early Thursday, prompting authorities to urge residents to seek shelter.
According to local officials, Russia targeted Kyiv with ballistic missiles, while explosions were heard across the city. In northeastern Ukraine, officials in Sumy said one person was killed in a separate drone attack. Air raid alerts were issued across most of the country.
The attack came just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with US President Donald Trump and several European leaders on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) meeting in France. Zelenskyy described the discussions as a coordinated effort aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This is the second major Russian air attack on Kyiv this week. A strike on Monday damaged a 1,000-year-old monastery and killed 10 people, drawing criticism from European leaders.
Meanwhile, Trump said Russia is suffering heavier military losses than Ukraine and suggested that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy appear open to seeking a solution to the conflict. However, the Kremlin said Putin did not discuss the possibility of meeting Zelenskyy during his most recent phone call with Trump.
