Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in their opening 2026 World Cup Group C match at MetLife Stadium, in a game where the North Africans largely dictated the tempo.
Morocco took a deserved lead through Ismael Saibari after a sharp assist from Brahim Díaz, repeatedly troubling Brazil’s defense with their intensity and movement. Vinicius Jr. equalized before halftime with a solo effort to rescue Brazil from a difficult first half.
Brazil improved after the break following tactical changes from Carlo Ancelotti, but Morocco remained dangerous on the counter and goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made several key saves to preserve the draw. Both sides acknowledged room for improvement as they continue their group campaign.
