The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 689, including 139 deaths, according to the latest report released by health authorities.
The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, has spread across 29 health zones in the eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu, with Ituri remaining the epicenter. Officials said response efforts continue to face challenges including limited treatment capacity, shortages of medical supplies, weak surveillance systems and a funding gap, while international partners are supporting measures such as contact tracing, laboratory testing and treatment to contain the disease.
