Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Pyongyang on Monday for a state visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, receiving a grand welcome from DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and his wife, Ri Sol Ju.
A large-scale welcome ceremony was held at Kim Il Sung Square, featuring a military honor guard, a 21-gun salute and performances celebrating the long-standing friendship between China and the DPRK. During talks, Xi said he looked forward to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation, while Kim described Xi as the DPRK people’s “most respected guest” and praised the importance China places on the relationship.
Later, Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, joined Kim and Ri at a welcome banquet and cultural performance. The visit marks Xi’s second trip to the DPRK as China’s top leader and coincides with the 65th anniversary of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.
