Israel hits Tehran after Iran launches first missiles since ceasefire

On Monday, explosions were heard across multiple Iranian cities, including Tehran, as the Israeli air force launched a new wave of strikes. This escalation followed Iran firing 10 ballistic missiles toward northern Israel on Sunday night, triggering sirens but causing no immediate injuries. Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps stated the strikes targeted Israel’s Ramat David Airbase in response to Israeli airstrikes in Beirut earlier that day, which had killed two people and injured 20 others despite a recently agreed-upon ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. Iranian military officials warned of “crushing blows” if Israel retaliates or expands its attacks in Lebanon, while the Israel Defense Forces affirmed they will continue operating intensely against the Iran-backed militant group.
In response to the flare-up, US President Donald Trump urged Iran to halt missile launches and return to the negotiating table, claiming Washington and Tehran had been close to a deal before the strikes. Trump also spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating beforehand that he would advise Israel not to strike back to prevent the collapse of US-Iran ceasefire negotiations. Meanwhile, the heightened regional tensions prompted Iraq to temporarily close its airspace for 72 hours, Syria to suspend operations at Damascus International Airport, and Iran to shut down its western airspace and halt flights at Imam Khomeini International Airport.
