Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing on Thursday with former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the next United Nations secretary-general, to discuss global governance and multilateral cooperation.
Wang said China would take part in the UN secretary-general selection in a responsible and constructive way and emphasized support for strengthening the authority of the United Nations. Bachelet highlighted the UN’s central role in addressing global challenges and said she remains committed to the one-China principle while pledging to work with China to reinforce multilateralism.
