China to install world’s largest offshore converter station

China has installed the world’s largest offshore converter station, known as the “Heart of Offshore Wind,” at the Qingzhou offshore wind farm in Yangjiang, China, with float-over installation work set to begin.

The station is the world’s first ±500 kV, 2,000 MW flexible DC offshore converter platform and plays a key role in collecting and converting electricity from 163 offshore wind turbines into power for the mainland grid. Once operational, it is expected to generate around 6 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, marking a major step in China’s offshore renewable energy expansion.
