2026 marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos, with both countries reporting deepening economic integration across trade, infrastructure, and emerging industries.
A central pillar of this partnership is the China–Laos Railway, which has become a major logistics artery linking China, Laos, and broader ASEAN markets. Since its opening in 2021, it has carried tens of millions of passengers and large volumes of cross-border cargo, significantly improving regional connectivity and transforming Laos from a landlocked country into a land-linked trade hub.
Beyond transport, cooperation has expanded into energy, healthcare, and digital infrastructure. Chinese-backed projects such as hospitals, poverty reduction initiatives, and large-scale power interconnection systems have contributed to local development in Laos. At the same time, new areas like 5G networks, satellite systems, and artificial intelligence cooperation are increasingly shaping the next phase of bilateral engagement.
In 2025, trade between the two countries reached $9.82 billion, reflecting strong growth momentum and highlighting Laos’s role as a key destination for Chinese investment across multiple sectors.
