US President Donald Trump has not yet approved a proposed agreement with Iran, as major disagreements remain between the two sides.
Trump said Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted shipping, and eliminate its enriched uranium stockpiles. However, Iranian officials rejected parts of his description, saying no final deal has been reached and that key issues remain under negotiation.
Iran also insisted that discussions are currently focused on ending the conflict, not on uranium enrichment details. Tehran reportedly wants the release of frozen Iranian assets and maintains that it has the right to manage traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, the US has increased pressure in the region, warning it could take military action against vessels involved in laying naval mines. Analysts say both Washington and Tehran are continuing to use strategic ambiguity as negotiations move forward.
