Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged to strengthen China-Canada relations during talks on Friday.
Carney said Canada is willing to expand cooperation with China in areas such as energy, finance, agriculture and fisheries, while also supporting multilateralism and international trade. He added that Canada supports China hosting the 2026 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
Wang said the two countries have significant potential for cooperation and should continue improving ties based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
In separate talks, Wang and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand agreed to strengthen dialogue and restart several consultation mechanisms, including political, security and rule-of-law exchanges.
Anand reaffirmed Canada’s one-China policy and said Ottawa aims to increase exports to China by 50 percent by 2030.
