China has issued a new guideline to build an artificial intelligence metrology system and strengthen related capabilities, aiming to improve the quality and foundation of the country’s AI development.
The guideline, released by State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Development and Reform Commission, focuses on areas including core technologies, technical standards, metrology services and the intelligent use of metrology.
Authorities said the move marks a shift in China’s AI industry from focusing mainly on computing power and scale to improving quality and real-world applications. The plan also supports China’s “AI Plus” initiative under the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan for 2026-2030.
