The China-Myanmar Cultural Salon of Tea for Harmony 2026

On May 21st, the 7th International Tea Day, the “Tea for Harmony” China-Myanmar Cultural Salon 2026 was held in Yangon, Myanmar. The event was co-hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Myanmar, China Media Group, the Myanmar Tea Association, and the National Museum of Myanmar (Yangon). More than 300 representatives from local governmental organizations, trade associations, universities, enterprises, and the media of China and Myanmar attended the event.

The representatives held in-depth discussions and explored potential cooperation in fields including traditional culture, industry development, and the consumption and health values of tea. The interactive zones showcased tea beverages and cuisines, complemented by an array of cultural performances such as traditional Chinese Guzheng and Erhu music, the Burmese harp, a tea dance, a Yi Jin Jing demonstration, and traditional tea ceremonies. These activities vividly highlighted the unique charm and profound culture of China and Myanmar in the field of tea. With its rich content, diverse formats, and lively interactions, the event was widely praised by the representatives.

Chinese tea culture has a long history and worldwide influence. The “Magical Oriental Leaf” carries the values of “The Way (Dao) follows nature” and “Coexistence in harmony” within Chinese civilization, representing the spiritual bearing and humanistic spirit of the Chinese people, and witnessing the glorious course of different civilizations cherishing their own values while respecting those of others. As the world’s largest tea producer and consumer, China attaches great importance to the inheritance and preservation of tea traditions, promotes the innovative development of the tea industry, and facilitates international exchanges and cooperation in the tea field.

In 2022, “Traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China” was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In 2023, the “Tea for Harmony · Yaji Cultural Salon” brand was initiated by China, setting off a new wave of tea culture exchanges worldwide and injecting new impetus into international cooperation in the field of tea.
