The 79th World Health Assembly decided not to include a proposal on Taiwan’s observer participation, marking the tenth consecutive year such proposals have not been added to the agenda.
Chinese officials said the decision reflects continued international support for the one-China principle and argued that Taiwan’s participation in organizations such as the World Health Organization must be handled under that framework.
China also stated that health-related exchanges with Taiwan continue through technical channels, noting that medical experts from Taiwan have still been able to participate in certain WHO technical activities with approval. Beijing said the decision had broad backing from the international community and reaffirmed its position that Taiwan-related issues in international organizations are tied to sovereignty and the one-China principle.
