Keir Starmer warned that a leadership challenge against him could throw the Labour Party into “chaos” as pressure grows following the party’s poor performance in recent local elections.
Reports say Health Secretary Wes Streeting is considering resigning and possibly launching a leadership challenge, though several senior ministers have publicly backed Starmer.
Tensions inside Labour have increased after several junior ministers resigned and 11 Labour-linked unions called for the party to begin preparing for a future leadership transition, saying Starmer may not lead the party into the next general election.
At the same time, the Scottish National Party threatened to introduce a no-confidence motion against Starmer, arguing that the political uncertainty surrounding his leadership cannot continue.
