Prime Minister Peter Magyar’s new government officially took the oath of office on Tuesday, following a landmark election victory by the Tisza Party that ended the long-standing rule of the Fidesz-KDNP coalition. Addressing parliament, Magyar emphasized a commitment to restoring public trust and improving governance through transparency and clear accountability. He stated that his administration is dedicated to building a “humane Hungary” where the government serves the nation’s interests above any individual leadership.
The new cabinet consists of 16 ministries, with a unique structure that grants veto power to four key departments: Finance, Health, Education and Children’s Affairs, and Justice. This centralized focus aims to address domestic social needs while simultaneously rebuilding Hungary’s international standing. Magyar pledged to strengthen ties with Western allies, reinforcing Hungary’s role within the European Union and NATO while continuing to advocate for national interests.
