US President Donald Trump said the US will temporarily pause “Project Freedom,” an operation to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, to allow more time for a possible agreement with Iran, though the broader blockade remains in place.
Trump said the pause came after requests from Pakistan and other countries, claiming progress had been made toward a potential deal with Tehran.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US military campaign against Iran has ended for now, though Washington warned strikes could resume if talks fail.
Iran said it is open to dialogue under international law but rejects pressure or demands to abandon its nuclear industry. At the same time, Tehran has introduced new shipping rules requiring vessels to obtain approval before transiting the Strait of Hormuz, keeping tensions high in the key global energy corridor.
