Florida Attorney General’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into whether ChatGPT contributed in any way to a mass shooting at Florida State University.
Authorities said they reviewed conversations between the suspect and ChatGPT but have not released details. The suspect, identified as Phoenix Ikner, allegedly carried out the attack using a firearm and was later taken into custody after being shot by law enforcement.
OpenAI rejected claims of responsibility, stating that ChatGPT provided only general information and did not encourage or assist illegal activity. The company also said it cooperated with law enforcement after the incident.
The case has sparked renewed debate in the United States over AI responsibility, legal liability, and broader issues surrounding gun violence.
