Tensions in the Gulf have escalated sharply after a reported US naval strike on an Iranian cargo ship and renewed disputes over stalled US–Iran talks.
The White House had indicated that a new round of negotiations in Islamabad could include senior US figures such as JD Vance, alongside other officials, but Iran has denied that talks are actually scheduled, citing US military pressure and “inconsistent demands.”
The dispute centers on the Strait of Hormuz, where Washington describes recent naval actions as enforcement measures while Tehran calls them aggression and a violation of a ceasefire.
Iran has warned it is prepared for escalation, while US and Iranian forces continue to exchange accusations over maritime incidents that have intensified regional instability.
