Cheng Li-wun has begun a mainland visit, marking the first time in a decade that a leader of the Kuomintang has led a delegation to engage with the Communist Party of China. Her trip to Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing is aimed at reviving dialogue and strengthening cross-Strait relations.
Welcomed by Song Tao, both sides expressed support for promoting peace and stability, with talks expected to focus on rebuilding communication and cooperation based on the 1992 Consensus.
Analysts say the visit comes amid strained ties but reflects efforts to restore exchanges and address economic concerns, particularly in sectors like agriculture and tourism. Cheng said the trip seeks to promote dialogue, reduce tensions and deliver practical benefits for people in Taiwan.
