Chinese researchers unlock greener pathway to key industrial materials

Chinese researchers have developed a new catalytic method to convert syngas into light olefins more efficiently under milder conditions, reducing energy use and costs.

The study, published in Nature, introduces a hydroxyl-induced cobalt oxide catalyst that achieves high conversion and selectivity at significantly lower temperatures and pressures than traditional Fischer–Tropsch synthesis methods.

The breakthrough offers a cleaner and more efficient approach to coal utilization, which remains a major energy source in China, supporting lower-carbon development in the chemical industry.
