Senegal is accelerating preparations to host the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Africa’s first Olympic event, with most venues nearing completion ahead of the October 31–November 13 competition.
The International Olympic Committee has cleared Dakar to enter the final phase of preparations, reporting a 97% completion rate across venues, infrastructure and logistics. Key sites such as Abdoulaye Wade Stadium and the Dakar Arena are ready, while several new facilities are expected to be finished within 90 days.
Organizers say the Games will host over 2,700 athletes across multiple sports, with test events planned to ensure readiness. Security and transport arrangements are also being finalized.
The event is expected to engage more than 300,000 ახალგაზრდers nationwide and will include a torch relay across Senegal and other African countries. Senegalese-born influencer Khaby Lame has been named a global ambassador.
