Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday that the Iranian people bear no hostility toward Americans, accusing the US of fighting Iran as a “proxy for Israel.” In a letter to the American people, he stressed that Iranians distinguish between governments and their citizens and have never pursued aggression, colonialism, or domination despite foreign interventions.
Pezeshkian said portraying Iran as a threat is a narrative created by Israel to distract from its actions against Palestinians. He criticized the US military presence near Iran as threatening and called Trump’s threats to strike Iranian energy facilities “war crimes” that harm civilians. He added that Israel seeks to involve the US in its fight with Iran “to the last American soldier and dollar.”
The letter came after February 28 joint Israeli-US strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians, prompting Iranian missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases in the Middle East.
