Palestine condemns Israeli death penalty law targeting West Bank Palestinians

The Palestinian Presidency condemned Israel’s approval of a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners convicted of “terrorism,” calling it a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law” and a breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention, WAFA reported.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said the law marks a “dangerous shift toward genocidal legislation” and field executions, affirming that Israeli laws do not apply to Palestinians.
Hamas described the move as reflecting the “bloody nature of the occupation” and Israel’s disregard for international law and human norms.
The law, passed by Israel’s far-right coalition, makes the death penalty the default for Palestinians in the West Bank convicted of killing Israelis with intent to harm the state, while it does not apply to Israelis who kill Palestinians. Courts can impose the death penalty even without prosecutors’ requests or a unanimous judicial decision.
