China on Monday defended its countermeasures against Japanese lawmaker Keiji Furuya, saying they were justified and in line with international practice.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said the actions were taken under Chinese law to protect national sovereignty and core interests, stressing that the Taiwan issue is a red line that must not be crossed.
She accused Furuya of repeatedly colluding with “Taiwan independence” forces to interfere in China’s internal affairs, harming its sovereignty, and criticized Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party for seeking external support for political gain at the expense of national interests.
