The US-Israel-Iran conflict escalated as President Trump warned that the US could strike Iran’s power infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
The strait, critical for nearly one-fifth of global oil and LNG shipments, has seen reduced traffic amid rising threats. Trump linked potential US military action to global shipping security, while Iran warned it would retaliate against US and allied energy and desalination facilities if its own infrastructure were hit. Tehran said the strait would remain open only to vessels not linked to “Iran’s enemies.”
Air raids and missile strikes continue in Israel, with casualties reported in Arad and Dimona. Iran confirmed over 1,500 deaths and 80,000 civilian sites attacked, while Israel struck IRGC and strategic R&D facilities in Tehran. Israeli officials said strikes would intensify to eliminate threats to Israel and US interests, including securing key energy infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia expelled several Iranian embassy staff over attacks on its territory, citing threats to sovereignty and security.
The conflict has raised oil prices and disrupted fertilizer shipments, driving global energy and food costs higher. Analysts warn that prolonged instability could worsen inflation, strain supply chains, and impact food security in Africa and South Asia.
